Ramey, Guy

Obituary -- Guy Ramey, 23 years old of Miami Oklahoma, a pump man employed in the tailing mill at the Beaver Mine, about one mile northwest of Cardin Oklahoma, was smothered to death about 8:30 o'clock last night when he fell into a hopper and tailings which were being worked in the mill sucked him underneath. The hopper contained about 25 tons of tailings. The feed drop to the mill kept the tailings on a gradual move and it is believed that Ramey became imprisoned immediately. He was not missed until the feed clogged and other employees of the mill went to investigate. They found Ramey's legs sticking through the bottom of the hopper. They were unable to explain what he had been doing at the hopper. District Mine inspector Ivan Fisher and officials of the Commerce Mining and Royalty Company, owners of the Beaver plant were at the mine a short time after Ramey was imprisoned. The investigation had not been concluded at press time Saturday night. Ramey was extricated from the hopper nearly an hour after he fell in. Death was caused from suffocation. He also suffered a broken leg and arm, mine officiate said. The Mitchelson undertaking company of Commerce took charge of the body. Ramey was a graduate of Miami high school and a well known district athlete. He lived in Miami until Friday and then moved to Commerce with his wife, daughter of Charles Wammach, rural resident living east of Commerce.
