Ray Dunnell is in the county jail charged with the murder of two children, George Jones, 6, and Charles Jones, 9 years old, sons of G. W. Jones northwest of Picher Oklahoma, Monday night about 11 o'clock. Dunnell was mad because his young wife had left him and she had sought refuge with the Joneses from her husband's brutality. He killed the people and wrecked the house with a charge of dynamite...that anyone escaped death was remarkable, as the structure was not only demolished, but the splintered lumber was scattered all over the landscape, even the furniture was demolished. Houses nearby were damaged and the concussion was felt as far away as Tar River Oklahoma and Picher Oklahoma...Dunnell was arrested, and Jones, painfully injured, later identified him...Dunnell went to the Jones home Monday and tried to persuade his wife, who is not related to the Jones family, to return to him. When she refused he threatened to blow up the house and kill the Jones family as well as his wife.
Mrs. Dunnell and the Joneses thought he was bluffing, and paid no attention to his threats. By a peculiar combination of circumstances, Mrs. Dunnell was the only inmate of the wrecked house who was not injured. She was dazed from the concussion, but no member of the Jones family escaped injury...the children of Mr. and Mrs. Jones were buried under the wreckage while other members of the family were pinioned to the floor where they had been hurled by the explosion. One of the children was lying in the yard. Its entrails practically ripped out, dying. It lived only a few minutes after being taken from the wreckage...after searching for the other children. Both of them were buried under the debris, and one of them was so seriously injured that he died about 9 o'clock Tuesday morning, while the other child is not expected to live...Several of the adjoining houses were seriously damaged. Windows were smashed in most of them while some persons were slightly injured by falling debris...Dunnell is being held in jail.
