Abstract Data
Obituary -- 74 years old, Commerce Oklahoma constable, was killed at 10:30 o'clock Sunday morning in an automobile accident which occurred two miles south of Cherokee Kansas. Johnson, who for the last 27 years had served as a peace officer in Ottawa county Oklahoma, was on his way to visit a brother when a small roadster he was driving left the highway and crashed into a ditch. The car turned over several times. Persons who arrived at the scene said Johnson's left chest was badly crushed and there were four scalp wounds, one in the back of the head and the others on the side of the head, would probably have caused his death. The veteran officer who served as deputy sheriff as well as holding police positions at Commerce during the 27 years, is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Edna Pittman of Ventura California; three brothers, John Johnson of Neodesha Kansas, Robert Johnson of Walnut Kansas, and Ernest Johnson of Braxelton Kansas, Funeral arrangements are incomplete waiting arrival of other relatives. The Mitchelson undertaking company is in charge.
