Abstract Data

Obituary -- 65 years old, was killed instantly at his farm home northeast of Welch Oklahoma, Monday afternoon when a shotgun he was carrying accidentally discharged, the shot penetrating the left side of the body and ranging upward toward the heart. Jackel, who lived 10 miles northeast of Welch in the Fairview district, was attempting to climb a fence when the mishap occurred. He left his home around 2 pm to "do some shooting," a report said. The fatal wound came from a double barreled shotgun. His body was found near the banks of the Neosho River. Walter Lester and Henry Lynch, residents of the Fairview district, hurried to Welch to call the county attorney at Vinita Oklahoma to make an investigation. Today the Craig county sheriff and the attorney formally pronounced his death as accidental. The victim is survived by his wife; one son, Herbert Jackel, of Dubuque Iowa, and Mrs. Irene Bertchan of Baltimore Maryland. Funeral arrangements had not been completed today.

Obituary -- Funeral services for Arthur Jackel, 63 year sold, who was accidentally shot Monday at his farm, eight miles southeast of Chetopa Kansas, were conducted at the Mitchelson undertaking company chapel at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. Mr. Jackel is survived by his wife, one son, Herbert Jackel of Dubuque Iowa, and one daughter, Mrs. Irene Betcham of Baltimore Maryland. Burial was in G.A.R. cemetery at Miami.
