Abstract Data

Obituary -- J. S. Gustin, 74 years old, was found dead Sunday morning at 7 o'clock at Tulls Lake, 13 miles west of Commerce Oklahoma. Mr. Gustin left his home, 301 North Quincy street, Commerce, Saturday morning to go to the lake hunting. When he failed to return Saturday evening, the members of the family became anxious and about 9 o'clock his son, Tony Gustin, went to the lake in search of him. Failing to find him, the younger Gustin returned to Commerce. Accompanied by a friend, Ed Noakes, he went back to the lake and about 7 o'clock Sunday morning the body was found. Mr. Gustin had lived in Commerce, since 1908 and spent much of his time hunting and fishing in nearby woods and steams. He apparently had been in good health until the time of his death, which was attributed to heart trouble. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. J. S. Gustin, three daughters, Mrs. Nell Vaner and Miss Nona Gustin both of the home, and Mrs. Ruth Sanderson of Goodland Kansas; one son, Tony Gustin of the home; and three brothers, Marion Gustin of Chetopa Kansas, Claude Gustin of Cherokee Kansas, and Charley Gustin of Pittsburg Kansas; and one sister, Mrs. Janie Moore of Cincinnati Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the First Baptist church at Commerce. Burial will be in Baxter Springs Kansas cemetery under direction of the Mitchelson undertaking company.
