The body of 18-year-old Samuel Lewis Resz, Quapaw Oklahoma Route 1 was recovered from Spring River east of Baxter Springs Kansas, Sunday morning, Jun 14, 1981. The young Oklahoman drowned in the rain- swollen river Friday morning and had been the object of a two-day search by local and area emergency units. Resz's body was found by two fisherman shortly after 10 a.m., about a mile south of the Spring River Dam floating in the river and snagged on some underbrush. The body was pulled from the water by members of the Baxter Springs Police Department and the Kansas Fish and Game Department about an hour later. The body was taken to the Derfelt Funeral Home, Baxter, where it was identified by the youth's father, Lawrence Reiz, Quapaw. The body was later taken to Jim Thomas and Son funeral home, Commerce Oklahoma. Resz, according to witnesses, arrived at the river on a bicycle Friday morning. He reportedly removed his shirt, shoes and socks and waded into the water about 25 yards from the dam. When the youth was about 25 yards from the bank, according to the witnesses, he went under in about 12 feet of swirling water, reappeared 100 yards downstream again. The death was ruled to be accidental. Young Resz was born March 16, 1963, in Harrison Arkansas, and had lived in Ottawa County Oklahoma for the last two years. Additional survivors include his mother, Mrs. Lawrece Resz, Richville Missouri; six brothers, Steve Outain, Peru Illinois, Wayne Outain, Louisiana, Michael Resz, Joseph Resz, Mark Resz and Marty Resz, all of the home; and four sisters, Mrs. Richard Evans, Barlett Kansas, Mrs. Mithchell Burch, Shelbina Missouri, Mrs. Tom Wright, Shelbina Missouri, and Miss Michelle Resz, of the home. Services for Samuel Lewis Resz were held. Minister Jan King, Minister of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Jay Oklahoma, officiated.
