Viola Mildred Amos - Chetopa Kansas, died at 7:14 a.m. Tuesday, Mar 21, 2000, at Chetopa Manor. She was 87. A white / Native American, she was born Nov 16, 1912, in Ottawa county Oklahoma to Norman Alonzo Deweese and AnnaBell Daugherty Sky Deweese, in a log cabin on her mother's Indian allotment. She attended grade school at Moccasin Bend, Ottawa county, and high school in Wyandotte Oklahoma, and attended Haskell Indian Nations University, Lawrence Kansas, for one year. She spent her entire life in this area, living in Chetopa Manor since 1994. She was a member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. She married Roy Amos on Jul 15, 1938, in Joplin Missouri He preceded her in death on Aug 12, 1995. Bath funeral home, Chetopa. Burial is in Greenlawn cemetery, northwest of Picher Oklahoma and Treece Kansas. Indian rites given.
