Vernon Ray Anderson - a photo, of Miami died Friday, Jun 23, 2000, at the Miami Nursing Center in Miami after an illness. He was 79. Born Apr 11, 1921, in Jane Missouri, to Stanley Milton and Gladys Lee West Anderson. He had lived in Miami for many years. He was a graduate of Riverton Kansas High School. A veteran, he served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Lackawanna during World War II for three and a half years as a carpenter's mate. He graduated with an associate of arts degree from Cameron A&M Junior College and later attended Oklahoma State University, where he played football for the varsity team. He was a nationally ranked Golden Gloves boxer and coached and refereed for many years. Mr. Anderson was a highway patrolman for the state of Oklahoma for 20 years, until his retirement in 1969. He then worked for the Corporation Commission for 24 years. Married Morvine Virginia Brewington on Apr 11, 1946. She preceded him in death on Mar 28, 1997. Paul Thomas funeral home in Miami. Burial in Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens cemetery east of Miami.
